I was privileged to have been invited to the 4th and final workshop for the Partners in Learning strand of the Black Pupils Achievement Programme (BPAP) in Lewisham yesterday which, despite being an F.A. Cup day as well as the start of GCSE period, was a very busy afternoon.

A cohort of 200 students had been tracked since 2005 with the objective of nurturing and improving achievement in learning. During the Partners in Learning strand students had been provided with a Samsung Q1 Ultra mobile computer and RedHalo software.

During yesterday afternoon 8 students along with members of their family presented the work they had been achieving using the devices and software and the results were very impressive, not least of which was how the technology had become embedded within the family.

The day was rounded off with a prize giving that included full parent and student passes to Handheld Learning 2008, a Samsung Digital Camera and then to top it all off, Tom Cooper, Head of School Improvement for Lewisham, announced that every student could keep their Q1's!

I look forward to seeing some of the students and their family members joining this forum and sharing their views about the project. We did film some interviews and these will appear as part of an article on this site shortly.

Students and their family members will be taking part in the Learners Village at HHL 08 throughout so you will have the opportunity to see what they have been doing and ask questions.

Thanks again to the organisers for inviting me!
