University of Bath

Department of Psychology

Title: Funded PhD studentship in Mobile Learning.

Applications are invited for a three year PhD studentship. This project is funded by Great Western Research and is a collaboration between the Psychology Department at the University of Bath (Dr.DanaŽ Stanton Fraser, Dr. Dawn Woodgate); The Department of Computer at the University of Bristol (Dr. Mike Fraser) and Sciencescope (a specialist educational sensor company based in Bath). The PhD research will focus on understanding the educational impact of using mobile devices to collect scientific data as part of school science activities. The research will focus on three main areas: Reflection and Learning; Authentication and and Privacy issues.

The studentship is based in Psychology at the University of Bath but will involve collaborating closely with project partners.  The ideal candidate will have a good first degree or MSc in psychology, human computer interaction or a related discipline. They must have a good grasp of research methods and data analysis. Essential to the post is a candidate who posseses excellent written and verbal communication, the ability to interpret research results and an enthusiasm to collaborate with others. Some background knowledge of mobile technology would be advantageous although not essential.

The studentship will provide a living stipend and will cover fees at the Home level. Overseas candidates are eligible but will need to fund the difference between Home and Overseas fees.
